Menopause

Medical cannabis can help to provide relief during menopause by easing symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, and mood changes, promoting overall comfort and balance.

Menopause is a naturally occurring event that happens to all women, usually from ages 45-55, although it can occur earlier or later due to hormone fluctuations. Each woman’s menopause symptoms are different, but many find them challenging. A 2016 UK survey found 79% experienced hot flashes, 22% experienced sleep problems and 18% experienced achy joints. 42% of women said their symptoms were worse than they expected.

Symptoms

Usually, menopause happens over several years as hormone levels change with age. Initial symptoms include irregular periods, but women can subsequently experience vaginal dryness, hot flashes, sleep issues, mood changes and brain fog.

Treatments

Menopause is a natural event in a woman’s life, but if this begins to cause significant issues, doctors may recommend hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to ease symptoms or improve quality of life. This is designed to increase levels of hormones that naturally lower during menopause. Research suggests many women use medical cannabis to help with menopause symptoms like sleep issues and anxiety.

Menopause can bring a range of challenging symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and sleep disturbances.

More and more patients tell us each year that they’ve tried cannabis or CBD (cannabidiol, an active ingredient in cannabis), particularly for sleep or anxiety.

In many cases, a combination of CBD and THC may work better together to provide relief, as CBD can enhance the calming effects of THC while minimising any potential side effects.

Medical cannabis may help reduce hot flashes, alleviate anxiety, and promote better sleep, supporting overall hormonal balance and well-being as a natural alternative to traditional treatments.

At Emerald, our team of experts can help you explore medical cannabis treatments for menopause that work for you, providing you with a safe, natural option to restore balance in your life.
