delta 8

What is Delta-8?

Delta-8 has a few names; delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol, delta-8-THC, or you might see it written as Δ8-THC. It’s a psychoactive substance that is known to be less potent, more stable, and easier to manufacture than delta-9, which is the primary psychoactive component in cannabis.

Delta-8 has been around since 1966 when it was first developed. It’s commonly used in medical cannabis as it tends to produce a more gentle, less intense “high”. Research shows delta-8 has excellent potential for relieving pain, nausea and anxiety, as well as stimulating appetite and providing neuroprotective properties. One study found 71% of people who used delta-8 experienced relaxation, and 55% experienced pain relief.

Is Delta-8 legal?

Delta-8 is a form of THC, so its legality can be tricky to determine. It’s a psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, but all cannabis products are considered legal unless they contain more than 1mg of THC in their final preparation, as is stated in the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2010. This means that, depending on its concentration, delta-8 may be legal.

In 2018, medical cannabis became legal with a prescription from a specialist doctor, so delta-8 is also legal if used for medical purposes.
